One Village One Voice
A mentoring program that implements the fundamentals of  basketball and chess to stimulate the minds of our young men. Sessions are normally held in the Bronx every Saturday where participants prepare/train for games, attend chess classes as well as business training workshops. The program helps provide a safe learning  environment for young boys (ages 10-18) from all five boroughs. While the program receives funding from private donors, donations from outside supporters help them purchase equipment and offer resources to the participants.

As an initiative to give back to our community, Shakira Moran (RGNY Operations Manager)  is hosting two fundraisers to help OVOV get ready for their upcoming semester and is asking for your support.
For the month of July, she will be hosting a bake sale, in which all money raised will go towards new equipment for the program; and for the month of August she will be hosting a "Bake to School" Drive to help provide participants with the necessary supplies for school.

School supplies can be dropped off at any Ripley-Grier location. If you would like more info on the program please visit   www.onevillageonevoice.org

Greetings and hope you are all having a beautiful Summer (remember how long it took to come). My only complaint about the heat is the stifling experiences I have had in the subway. Whew! That is a nasty environment.
Summer Fitness: I have been in the ocean about 6 times so far this month and it's been great. I am boogie boarding (body boarding) which is a great cardio and strength workout. I began walking on the beach again for fitness and am riding my bike on the boardwalk. I began a regimen of yoga in the morning in my home studio (I recommend small sessions of 10 minutes and work up). Seems I need this for my joints these days; My massage therapist has been commenting on my lack of flexibility lately. I was concentrating on strength and lacking in my stretch and flexibility sessions. I urge everyone to take advantage of cooler mornings or sunset times to get outside and walk, bike, jog or run. Even strolling for a long period of time will do. However, make sure you are breathing fresh air and not car emissions.
Feng Shui Projects: We are in the process of renovating RG 939 (our 939 8th Avenue location) and it is going great. We are putting in new flooring, repainting, redecorating and re-purposing some of our studios and office spaces there. It is a great location , near Broadway and the Theatre District, located three blocks from Columbus Circle. I love renovating and redecorating spaces using Feng Shui. My advice this month is to take advantage of any opportunities to de-clutter, have garage sales, contribute to street fairs, etc.. to clear out and re-purpose your "stuff".
Enjoy the rest of July. See you in August!
Blessings, Patricia

I hope everyone had a great 4th of July! This month I started my first online Summer course called RTVF 16: TV Aesthetics and Criticism (RTVF stands for Radio, Television, Film). For this class the professor gives a 30 minute lecture, then gives us one or two episodes of a TV show to view. After viewing the show and maybe reading some articles, we then write short response. The course is intensive since it fits what is normally a 3 month course into 1 month, but I'm glad that I decided to take it.
I went to two concerts this month. The first one we went to was Panic! At the Disco. I went with my friend Roselia and it was at Nassau Coliseum,. The second concert was Arctic Monkeys at the Forest Hills Stadium. I went with my friend Valentina who is visiting from Italy. Both concerts were so much fun and it was my first time seeing both bands after listening to their music for years. Val and I are also going on a couple trips with my parents in August, including a few days in Montauk, NY and about a week in Cape May, NJ with my dog Johnny.
See you soon, Jeannie
